Here is the basic story. The F-5 was designed as a lightweight export fighter in the mid-late ’50s. The T-38 was developed from the F-5A variant to be used as an advanced/supersonic trainer to replace the T-33. The 38 uses a much simpler wing, less powerful engines, and a redesigned 2-seat tandem cockpit.

What happened to the F 20 Tigershark?

The F-20 Tigershark program was abandoned in 1986 after three prototypes had been built (two of which crashed after their pilots blacked out due to excessive g-forces) and a fourth partially completed. The F-20 Tigershark (initially F-5G) was a privately financed light fighter, designed and built by Northrop.
