Is the Kokoda Challenge hard?

For those of you who have never competed in a Kokoda Challenge, the course is incredibly taxing on your body and muscles. The stress you put on your ankles, knees and hip joints is enormous. By doing a strength program, you give your body the best chance of getting through the Challenge (and your training) injury-free.

How long does the Kokoda Challenge take?

39 hours
39 hours of over 4,000 metres of elevation, walking all weekend through the day and night in whatever weather conditions are thrown your way and pushing yourself beyond what you thought you were capable of.

How old do you have to be to do the Kokoda Challenge?

Minimum Age Recommendations For all events – Participants under the 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult (18 or over) in a team.

What do you need for the Kokoda Challenge?

All of these items are ESSENTIAL when you embark on the Kokoda Challenges, but we also recommend these things for any training or other hiking adventures;

  • A light day pack.
  • Toilet paper.
  • Sunglasses and a hat.
  • Head torch.
  • First aid kit.
  • Gloves, beanies and jumper.
  • Water.
  • Walking poles.

How does Kokoda Challenge work?

This July hundreds will set out to complete the Kokoda Gold Coast Challenge – a 96-kilometre race through mountain terrain. With the support of volunteers and crews at check-points, teams will run and walk through a chilly night and any adverse conditions that nature throws at them.
