What is SCD and gaps?

The two diets are based on some of the same principles. Essentially, the GAPS Diet is built on the SCD Diet, but is more comprehensive in nature. The SCD diet focuses on eliminating disaccharide sugars and most starches. The GAPS diet builds on the SCD by adding additional healing foods and protocols to heal the gut.

What is allowed on SCD diet?

As the name suggests, the diet allows some carbs and bans others, based on how hard they are to digest. You can have items including fresh fruit, most vegetables, meat without additives, and homemade yogurt, but not starches, grains, and processed or canned foods.

What is the simple carbohydrate diet?

The specific carbohydrate diet (SCD) is a nutritionally complete grain- free diet, low in sugar and lactose. It was developed by Dr. Sidney Haas, a pediatrician, in the 1920’s as treatment for celiac disease.
