What role UNDP plays in implementation of the SDGs?

UNDP provides support to governments to integrate the SDGs into their national development plans and policies. This work is already underway, as we support many countries in accelerating progress already achieved under the Millennium Development Goals.

What are the main differences between MDGs and SDGs?

Unlike the MDGs, which only targets the developing countries, the SDGs apply to all countries whether rich, middle or poor countries. The SDGs are also nationally-owned and country-led, wherein each country is given the freedom to establish a national framework in achieving the SDGs.

What’s new in the Post-2015 Development Agenda?

The post-2015 Development Agenda not only builds on the lessons of the MDGs but also goes beyond the original targets. A series of new goals – the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – have been designed to comprehensively cover a range of areas, including those most closely linked to UNODC’s work.

Is UNODC’s work aligned with the Post-2015 Development Agenda?

Much of UNODC’s work is already aligned with the post-2015 Development Agenda, reflecting the centrality of providing people-centred, rights-based and gender-sensitive solutions in promoting development, the rule of law and peace and security.

What are the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)?

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), established in 2000 following the United Nations Millennium Summit, committed the nations of the world to achieving certain goals across eight priority areas of social and economic development by 2015.

Which issues are not operationalized in the MDGs?

However, some critical issues such as Security, Rule of Law and Social Justice, while present in the Millennium Declaration, were not operationalized in the MDGs.
