Is ibandronate taken monthly?

Adults—2.5 milligrams (mg) once a day in the morning, or 150 mg once a month on the same date each month, taken at least 60 minutes before the first food, beverage, or medicine of the day other than water.

What is ibandronate sodium tablets for?

Ibandronate is used to treat and prevent osteoporosis (thinning of the bone) in women after menopause. This medicine is available only with your doctor’s prescription.

How long should ibandronate be taken?

Bisphosphonates, the most common type of osteoporosis medications, are typically taken for at least 3 to 5 years. After that, your doctor will consider your risk factors in determining whether you should continue to take these or other osteoporosis medications.

You should not take Ibandronate Sodium if you are pregnant, breast feeding, have kidney problems, or have low blood calcium. If you cannot sit or stand for at least 1 hour, you should not take the tablet form of this medication.

Does ibandronate cause weight gain?

Since Boniva is used after menopause, it’s possible that you may gain weight after you start taking it. However, it’s not likely that the drug would be the cause of the weight gain.

Can I drink coffee after taking ibandronate?

Never take Boniva (ibandronate) with tea, coffee, juice, milk, mineral water, sparkling water, or any liquid other than plain water. After you take Boniva (ibandronate), do not eat, drink, or take any other medications (including vitamins or antacids) for at least 60 minutes.
