Should a pool gate swing in or out?
The gate must swing outward, away from the swimming pool. That way, if the latch fails and a child pushes on the gate, it won’t swing open. Install the latch on the inside of the gate and at least 54 in. above the bottom of the gate.
How do you adjust a self closing pool gate?
Look at the top of the hinge and notice a groove. With the flat-head, press down firmly and turn counter-clockwise to increase tension and vice versa. Be careful not to over-tighten the hinge.
Why do pool gates have to open outwards?
The gate should open outwards (away from the pool). In this way, it increases the difficulty for kids to engage the latch and open the gate. This can also prevent children from running and jumping into the swimming pool after opening the gate.
