How much does it cost for a plasma cutter?
Depending on type, size, and features, a CNC plasma cutting machine could range anywhere from $15,000 to $300,000. That’s a big range, but the vast majority of CNC plasma machines sold today are well below the $100,000 mark.
What kind of gas is used for plasma cutting?
Nitrogen
Nitrogen is often used for higher current plasma systems and for cutting materials up to 3 inches thick. It produces excellent quality cuts on most materials. Oxygen is used when the highest quality mechanized cuts are desired on carbon steel up to 1 -1/4 inch thick. The cut face is smooth, and dross is easy to remove.
Do you need to wear a welding mask when using a plasma cutter?
You must wear a welding helmet for all plasma arc welding operations. Only cutting applications with less than 20 amperes will allow for standard safety glasses with a filter 4- 5 to be used.
Can you run a plasma cutter off an inverter?
Plasma cutters can run off of 110V or 220V depending on the model you use. Some inverter units like our Versa-Cut 40 have the ability to sense the input voltage and run off either with a wall outlet adapter. Obviously the maximum output is lower when running on 110V than 220V on dual voltage input machines.
How many amps does a plasma cutter use?
For 3/8” cut, 40 amps works out well for most brands of plasma cutters. For ½” cut, 50 amps works out well, etc.
How much air pressure does a plasma cutter need?
To be precise, the air pressure required for a plasma cutter is about 4-8 SCFM at 90-120 PSI. This plasma cutter air pressure is a generalization for cutting steel between 3/8″ and 7/8″ thick.
What shade of lens do you use for plasma cutting?
