AAT is the world’s leading professional body for accounting technicians. We work across the globe with around 130,000 members in more than 100 countries.

What is a AAT qualification?

AAT stands for Association of Accounting Technicians and is a leading accounting body for accounting professionals. The AAT qualification is the start of an accountancy career for anyone without any previous experience. It’s made up of three levels – Foundation, Advanced and Professional.

Is AAT a chartered accountant?

Once a staff member has achieved the AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting they can go on to study chartered accountancy. This is an extremely popular route: a third of all AAT students go on to chartered studies. Chartered status supports a broad range of managerial finance roles across every sector.

AAT is deemed technician level, so on gaining your CIMA qualification you will be more qualified and hopefully able to earn more money while getting more enjoyment out of your work. CIMA is significantly harder than AAT because you need to know a lot more, and have more experience.

Is AAT or ACCA better?

ACCA is a higher qualification than AAT. If you wish to pursue both these qualifications, you should complete AAT first, and then earn your ACCA membership.
