What is a pelvic fixator?
The Pelvic Fixator™ is an adjustable link system for rapid pelvic stabilization. Stabilization with the Orthofix Pelvic Fixator is achieved by means of self-drilling screws inserted into the pelvis, and a fixator assembly which consists of two primary links joined by a connector unit.
What is ProCallus?
The ProCallus™ Fixator is a modular system intended as a mean for stabilization of bone segments in a broad range of indications, including fractures, joint fusion, joint distraction and angular corrections (hemicallotasis).
Can I walk with external fixator?
Many patients are weight-bearing as tolerated with the external fixator. This means they can walk normally on the fixator, but they cannot run or jump.
How long does it take a broken pelvis to heal?
Healing can take eight to 12 weeks. Severe injuries to the pelvis that involve several breaks can be life-threatening. Shock, extensive internal bleeding and internal organs damage may be involved. The immediate goal is to control bleeding and stabilize the injured person’s condition.
What to expect after external fixator removed?
After you have had the external fixators removed, you will experience pain, swelling and stiffness in and around the fracture site. You will have decreased range of movement, strength and muscle control in your lower leg as a result of the surgery and prolonged immobilisation.
Can you sleep on your side with an external fixator?
Sleeping on your back is likely to be the most comfortable position. On your side is also possible with the fixator leg uppermost.
How painful is an external fixator?
Results The average pain prior to fixator removal was of 3.61. Shortly after the procedure, the patients reported that, on average, the most intense pain scored 6.68, and the least intense pain, 2.25 points. The average pain variation was of 4.43 points, and pain after 1 week scored, on average, 2.03 points.
Can you walk again after a broken pelvis?
After pelvic fracture surgery, patients are not allowed to bear weight or walk for six to 10 weeks. You will be taught by physical therapy to use crutches or a walker before leaving the hospital. Your doctor may decide to put you on a blood thinner after surgery for 2-6 weeks depending on your risk factors.
