How do I fix error code P0234?

The most common repairs to resolve a P0234 are:

  1. Confirm the code with an OBD-II scanner, and reset the diagnostic code.
  2. Replace defective boost pressure sensor (common)
  3. Replace turbocharger or supercharger wastegate.
  4. Repair or replace damaged wastegate hoses, removing any kinks or blockages.

What does turbo charger overboost mean?

Overboost is when the turbocharger runs at a higher pressure (forces more air into the engine) than would be sustainable on a constant basis. The duration of overboost is usually limited to 10-20 seconds and the result is a power gain of around 10%, on average, for that period of time.

How do I know if my wastegate is stuck open?

If it was stuck closed, you would spike most likely hard overboost. Stuck open you would be slow getting into boost(REALLY laggy) and you would run wastegate pressure.

What causes the P0420 O2 sensor to be low?

The ECM uses two O2 sensors, one in the front and one in the back of the catalytic converter, to measure efficiency. If the efficiency is low, the P0420 code will be triggered. In most cases, a P0420 code is caused by a bad catalytic converter. The most common symptom of code P0420 is a check engine light on the dashboard.

What does p0234 code mean?

Trouble code P0234 indicates the powertrain control module (PCM) senses a dangerously high boost pressure from the engine’s forced induction system. Levels of boost in excess of recommended levels can compromise the structural integrity of the engine.

What are the symptoms of a P0420 code on a car?

You will probably not have any symptoms except the check engine light with just the P0420 trouble code stored. You may have other problems with your engine damaging the catalytic converter, which can cause symptoms like rough idle, rough acceleration, misfires, and hard shifting. Always fix these problems first.
