Should you size up with leotards?
When in doubt, we always suggest to size up as they can grow into it! So, take into consideration the fabric of the leotard is as well as your gymnasts preferred fit when selecting her next leo. You may be able to go up or down a size depending on her measurements and these factors.

Do leotards run small?
Motionwear: Motionwear leotards run extremely small in both length and width, and they do not stretch as much as other brands do. This makes them really good for “holding in” the bust, tummy, etc. All dancers should look at one size up. Taller dancers or those with longer or wider torsos may need 2 sizes up.
How tight should a leotard be?
The leotard should be snug, fitting like a second skin with no excess material. Ensure the leotard has been pulled up properly onto the hip bones. The leotard should not be digging into your child’s shoulders. If the seams are stretched, try the next size up.

How do you know if a leotard is too small?
This is actually the correct size. If a leotard is getting too small, it will often start to dig into the shoulders. (Incidentally it might be worth checking that the leotard is being pulled up enough on the hips, as this can cause the same problem.)
