Can you split doubles in backgammon?

You may split the moves between two checkers based on the number on each individual die. For example, if you roll a one and a five, you can move one checker one space and another checker five spaces. You can also move the same checker twice as long as neither move lands on a blocked point.

What happens when you get doubles in backgammon?

If a player rolls two of the same number, called doubles, that player must play each die twice. For example, a roll of 5-5 allows the player to make four moves of five spaces each. On any roll, a player must move according to the numbers on both dice if it is at all possible to do so.

Can you stack more than 5 in backgammon?

The official backgammon tournament rules allow to put all 15 checkers on a point. If you want to play with a maximum of 5 checkers, go to the menu Settings and activate the Egyptian Rule.

How do I get off the bar in backgammon?

If one or more of your checkers are on the bar, you must get those checkers back on the board before moving any others. This is done by moving the checker from the bar to an open point on your opponent’s home board, corresponding to one of the numbers you roll.

Do you have to roll a double to get off the bar in backgammon?

The rules require that you use both numbers of your roll (all four numbers of a double) if possible. If you can make moves which do not involve bearing off, you are free to do so. Otherwise, you must bear off if that is your only legal play.

What does it mean to bear off in backgammon?

Once a player has moved all of his fifteen checkers into his home board, he may commence bearing off. A player bears off a checker by rolling a number that corresponds to the point on which the checker resides, and then removing that checker from the board.

Is there an advantage to going first in backgammon?

The reason for this is that following the first move in backgammon, there are 21 dice roll outcomes on each subsequent move, and many alternative plays for each outcome, making the tree of possible positions in backgammon expand much more rapidly than in chess.

How do you bear off in backgammon?

A player must have all of his active checkers in his home board in order to bear off. If a checker is hit during the bear-off process, the player must bring that checker back to his home board before continuing to bear off. The first player to bear off all fifteen checkers wins the game. Backgammon is played for an agreed stake per point.

What is the meaning of backgammon?

Backgammon is basically a race game between two players. Each player has 15 checkers (or men) that he needs to bring home faster than his opponent. The checkers move on a board composed of 24 triangles, also known as point.

How do you play backgammon with Checkers?

The first player to remove all their checkers is the winner. Alternate turns with your opponent moving checkers toward your home in the upper right hand quadrant of the backgammon board. Move checkers by rolling the dice. The numbers on the dice refer to how many spaces you may move with one or more checkers.

How many points do you get for losing a backgammon?

One to three points can be awarded during the backgammon game dependant on where the loser’s checkers are on the board when the winner wins. If the losing player has not borne off any of their checkers by the time the winner has won, the winner will achieve 2 points, and is known as losing a gammon.
