Why does my outboard motor keep cutting out?

Why does my outboard stall? Your outboard may be stalling & running out of fuel due to three issues. Either the lift pump has failed, the boat is out of fuel or there is an air leak or blockage somewhere in the fuel lines running fuel from the tank to the engine.

Why is my Mercury outboard not starting?

A cracked, clogged, or otherwise worn fuel pump is often the reason a Mercury outboard cranks but won’t start. Consult a repair manual for your engine model and year to determine the proper replacement part.

Why does my small engine dies when I give it gas?

This is because there is less air moving through the engine at idle. When the engine is run at full throttle, especially under load, the air flow is much greater, which causes more back pressure, and results in the engine stalling.

What causes an outboard motor to bog down at full throttle?

Poor Gas Quality The fuel used for your outboard motor can be one of the primary reasons why your outboard motor is bogging down. And this is most likely caused by the ethanol content of the gas.

Why is 9.9 hp not 10 hp?

As you may have already noticed, many manufacturers supply 9.9 HP boat motors instead of 10 HP. There are good reasons behind those 9.9 HP motors: Some inland bodies of water have motor restrictions “under 10HP” only. Some states will require boat registration on boats with larger than 10 HP outboard motors.
