What is bumbong made of?

Traditionally, Puto Bumbong is made from a unique type of glutinous rice called “Pirurutong” combined with white glutinous rice. Pirurutong is deep purple or almost black in color and becomes soft, sticky, and aromatic once cooked. The mixture is placed inside greased bamboo tubes/flutes and steamed.

What is Puto Bumbong in English?

‘Puto bumbong’ is a Filipino delicacy traditionally served during Christmas season in the Philippines. It literally translates to steamed glutinous rice (puto) cooked in bamboo (bumbong).

How to make easy puto?

Pilau is often made by adding the rice to hot fat and stirring briefly before adding the cooking liquid. The fat used varies from recipe to recipe. Cooking methods vary with respect to details such as pre-soaking the rice and steaming after boiling. There are thousands of variations of pilau made with rice or other grains like bulgur.

How to make puto with cheese?

In a mixing bowl,put the flour,sugar,powdered milk,salt and baking powder.

  • Put the eggs,melted butter and vanilla.
  • Add water gradually.
  • Strain the puto mixture.
  • Fill the molder cup with a paper liner of puto mixture.
  • Arrange into a steamer and put the sliced cheese and salted eggs on top.
  • Steam for 10 minutes.
  • Check the puto if already cooked.
  • How to make a cassava puto?

    4 cups grated cassava

  • 6 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 cup grated Young Coconut (long and thin)
  • Mascuvado (optional)
  • Tin Molds ( you can use Condensed Milk can,cut in half and make sure to put holes at the bottom )
  • How to make banana puto?

    In a mixing bowl,add-in the mashed bananas,eggs,evaporated milk,butter,and vanilla extract.

  • In another bowl,add-in the all-purpose flour,granulated sugar,baking powder,and salt.
  • Slowly add-in the flour mixture into the banana mixture and stir well.
  • Prepare puto molds and brush it with cooking oil.
  • Fill the mold with the puto batter.
