What is the best connection for a DAC?

You should use the USB connection between the computer and DAC.

What is USB DAC?

A DAC, or digital to analogue converter, is the device that translates digitally stored information from a laptop, iPod or other such device into the analogue sound that we can hear.

Is Spdif better than USB?

S/PDIF and USB are simply data transports. In reality they have absolutely nothing at all to do with audio, they are just ways of getting data from one place to another. That data might be related to audio, and in the case of S/PDIF it always is, but it doesn’t have to be.

Is USB audio better than Spdif?

If you have a good DAC, its performance will not vary with USB or S/PDIF. Some DACs may show better or worse performance. Based on my set of DACs, USB is the winner there and at any rate, none of this is audible differences.

Is USB better than optical for audio?

Both will work fine, but optical has some major benefits over USB that just pushes it into first place. Not being affected by electrical and radio interference is a major advantage to me in the audio world. Personally I always use optical audio when possible.

Is optical better than USB on PC?

Is USB or coax better?

Whilst Coax is more powerful and warm/full/rich in sound, USB tends to be a lot clearer and more airy sound, lacking the fullness/richness of Coax though.

Do DACs have S/PDIF inputs?

Words are one thing, data is another. So let’s see measure the performance of S/PDIF and DAC on the same USB and see how they differ. Alas, USB seems to have taken the market by the storm and increasingly DACs have only USB input. I had to dig deep in my stash of DACs to find the ones that still have S/PDIF input.

Is the SPDIF RCA cable better than the USB?

The SPDIF RCA connection does sound fuller, bigger soundstage, and more detail than the USB connection. I also feel more emotionally engaged to the music than the USB connection. I may try some more digital cables later on to see how good this can get. Using a WyWires Litespd cable.

Should I get a USB or optical DAC for my DAC?

In theory, without noise, USB allows your DAC’s clock to take over with the least effort. Sometimes optical is best thanks to zero ground loop issues. I agree with Eric_squires. I would try them both as well as the AES/EBU if you can. I have an Aurender N10 feeding a Chord Dave and personally prefer the SPDIF connection over the USB.

Does SPDIF sound better on a CD player?

So stating that Spdif on your dac sounds better (or worse) than Usb, does not tell us that much, because you can then also say, from the same listening comparison, that your cd player sounds better (or worse) than your “fill in your computer or pi, with or without usb decrapifiers”.
