What is a channel set?

A channel set engagement ring is basically a solitaire diamond ring with diamonds set on the shoulders. The diamonds are set in a row between a gold or platinum band and secured by grooves on both walls in between the strips of metal.

What is the difference between channel set and pave?

Channel Setting – A series of diamonds set in rows within a channel. This setting is enormously popular for engagement / wedding bands or for the side stones of an engagement ring. Pave Setting – A setting where the metal remains invisible as tiny gem stones and diamonds are packed closely together.

What is a channel set band?

A channel setting isn’t complicated, actually, and is exactly as the name suggests. The band contains a specially cut channel, into which is set small stones such as diamonds. They are kept secure either by the lip of the groove being narrower than the stones or by special grooves in the wall of the channel.

Are channel set diamonds safe?

Safety: One of the biggest advantages of channel settings is that the stones in them are very safe. Since the gemstones are put in a channel, it is not easy for them to fall out. In addition, they are well protected against accidental hits that may chip them.

Are pave diamonds cheap?

Are Pavé Diamonds Expensive? Since pavé refers to a setting and not a diamond, this question is a bit of a misnomer. However, a pavé set diamond ring is often much more affordable than other types of diamond rings simply because it’s paved with accent diamonds.

Can channel set rings be resized?

Most channel set diamond rings only have diamonds on the top half of the band, which means that they can be resized slightly, but the amount that they can be resized is restricted compared to a solid metal band.

French-set diamonds are small diamonds raised with tiny prongs around the ring band. The look creates the effect of a single, continuous line of sparkle. French-set bands often have more sparkle than any other type of diamond band, since they allow the most light to enter the diamonds.

Contrary to what some people believe, there is no limit to the number of times a ring can be sized. If your ring is made of quality materials, it should be able to handle being sized several times. However, having the same ring resized several times could weaken the structure of the ring.

This technique involves undercutting a seat in both walls of the channel. One of the more critical ingredients to good channel setting is having matched stones. You should match color clarity, size and proportion. The two critical features are the spread (diameter of the stone) and crown height.
