What is SC PC connector?

(Standard Connector, Subscriber Connector) A fiber-optic cable connector that uses a push-pull latching mechanism similar to common audio and video cables. For bi-directional transmission, two fiber cables and two SC connectors (Dual SC) are used.

What is the acceptable dB loss for fiber?

For multimode fiber, the loss is about 3 dB per km for 850 nm sources, 1 dB per km for 1300 nm. (3.5 and 1.5 dB/km max per EIA/TIA 568) This roughly translates into a loss of 0.1 dB per 100 feet (30 m) for 850 nm, 0.1 dB per 300 feet(100 m) for 1300 nm.

Is UPC compatible with PC?

In principle, different connectors can not be mated. However, the fiber ends of PC and UPC are flat, and the difference between them is the quality of polishing. Therefore, UPC and PC are compatible and interchangeable without causing any damages to the connectors.

What are SC connectors?

A square connector or standard connector (SC) is a fiber-optic cable connector that uses a push-pull latching mechanism similar to that used in common audio/video cables, which makes it very easy to connect and disconnect the cables.

What is the insertion loss of PC and UPC connectors?

Usually, the insertion loss of PC, UPC, and APC connectors is less than 0.3dB. However, UPC connectors have the lowest IL due to the smallest air gap while APC connectors have the highest RL due to the beveled fiber end-face.

What is the insertion loss and return loss of fiber connectors?

Different polishing styles of fiber connectors have varied core-to-core contact performance regarding the connector’s insertion loss and return loss. Usually, the insertion loss of PC, UPC, and APC connectors is less than 0.3dB.

What is normal insertion loss for power connector?

Typical insertion loss In PC, UPC and APC connectors should be less than 0.3dB. Insertion loss can also be caused by a tiny particle of dust trapped between the connector end-faces. A single dry debris particle could even damage the fibers and ferrules.

What are SC and LC connectors used for?

Optical connectors are used for connection between network devices at data centers and for the connection of fiber optic cable to equipment on customer premises (e.g. FTTH). Among the various types of fiber connector, SC and LC are two of the most commonly used connectors.
