What is Commons Logging jar used for?

The Apache Commons Logging (JCL) provides a Log interface that is intended to be both light-weight and an independent abstraction of other logging toolkits.

What is additivity in log?

Additivity is set to true by default, that is children inherit the appenders of their ancestors by default. If this variable is set to false then the appenders found in the ancestors of this logger are not used.
