Is the Leica MP better than the M6?

The LEICA M6 and M6 TTL are LEICA’s most advanced mechanical rangefinder cameras, and superb cameras by any gauge. They are a smart buy today, since the M6 is a better camera than either of the new mechanical LEICA MP, which has no TTL flash ability, and the new LEICA M-A doesn’t even have a light meter!

Does Leica MP have TTL?

The Leica MP, which is also available in black or silver, is essentially a Leica M-A with the convenience of a TTL light meter.

What is M6 TTL?

by EM July 5, 2020. An in-depth guide to: The Leica M6 TTL. Made for only four years between 1998 and 2002, the Leica M6 TTL was the successor the 1984-98 Leica M6 and brought with it a couple of new party tricks: an ergonomically designed shutter speed dial and TTL flash metering.

How many Leica M6 TTL were made?

Leica M6 Year of Rooster: 300 cameras. Leica M6 999: 999 cameras. Leica M6 Titanium: circa 6000 and 1000 in TTL-version.

What is special about the Leica M6?

The M6, along with most other Leica cameras and lenses, are beautifully built. The build materials changed from previous models, but it’s still hefty. It’s minimal and simple – on the top plate of the body, you have a dial for shutter speed, a film advance lever, a rewind crank, and a film counter.

Why do people like the Leica M6?

Is Leica M6 durable?

If you’ve never shot a rangefinder camera before, try borrowing one and shoot at least a roll with and see how the rangefinder system works for you. Once you’re certain this is the right tool for you, then YES the Leica M6 is definitely worth it. These cameras are almost unbreakable and require very little maintenance.

What is TTL Leica?

The term TTL refers to FLASH TTL and not to be mistaken as metering TTL as both camera has the same metering system. I opted for the 0.85x viewfinder version so it’s a tad easier to focus with this camera. The 0.85 is ideal for using with telephoto or wide aperture lenses which stops down to f1.

Is the Leica M6 reliable?

The Internal Light Meter and Viewfinder The light meter in the M6 is incredibly accurate. I’ve relied on it for nearly every single shot I’ve taken, and aside from my own poor metering judgement, it’s gotten it right every time. I’ve compared the readings to my Sekonic L-508, and they line up.

Does the M6 have a light meter?

TTL light meter. The Leica M6 provides through-the-lens (TTL) light metering. Rather than pointing at a shutter speed in the finder like the Leica M5 or many SLR film cameras, the Leica M6’s meter shows how close the selected shutter speed and aperture combination is to the meter’s reading.

What is the difference between the Leica M6 TTL and M6 Classic?

The M6 “Classic” is the same height as the M1, M2, M3 and M4 variants, meaning that it can be used with Leica’s “goggle” lenses. This M6 TTL is 2mm taller due to extra flash electronics.

Where is the light meter on a Leica M6?

According to Leica, the M6 TTL’s meter is based on a spot in the center of the viewfinder covering between 23% and 66% of the field of view of your lens. These diagrams from the M6 TTL manual put that into perspective: Leica M6 TTL Light Meter Coverage.

Should I get a Leica M6 or a 35mm Voightlander lens?

If you haven’t tried it out yet, I’d recommend getting a Leica M6 and a 35mm Voightlander f/1.4 lens. It is a solid combination, and the best “bang for the buck” out there. I have tons of friends who have the combination and love it. Have the cash and want a more reliable and durable camera film rangefinder that will last you a lifetime?

What is the best TTL flash to use with a Leica?

The M6 TTL can be used with the vast majority of Leica flash units, as well as those from third parties such as Metz and Sunpack. Leica specifically suggests their SF20 flash or any SCA 3000 flash unit equipped with the SCA adapter 3501. If you need TTL flash with a Leica, the M6 TTL and the M7 are your best bet.
