Do you need a top coat when spray painting?
If you are spray painting furniture and find that you just really want an extra layer of durability, I recommend using Rust-Oleum Clear Gloss Spray Paint (affiliate link). It can also be used over flat spray paint to make it glossy. But, really, you don’t usually need a topcoat for spray paint.
What is flat top coat?
Flat Out Flat is a self-crosslinking water-based topcoat that mimics the lustrous look and feel of wax. The increased matting agents used to create “flat look” cause this wood finish to have less clarity, show fingerprints more and provide slightly less durability than High Performance.

Is flat finish the same as matte?
