Are pickguards needed?
Pickguards are used to protect the finish of your guitar. If you play with a pick and want to preserve the finish of the guitar then a pickguard is necessary. If you don’t use a pick and/or don’t mind minor scratches or signs of wear from strumming a pickguard isn’t strictly necessary.

Why do some guitars not have pickguards?
Most guitars have pickguards because they are great at protecting your guitar from scratches, as they can be easily replaced, and they add a touch of flair to the design. The reason why some guitars don’t have pickguards, is purely for aesthetic reasons.
Should I remove plastic from pickguard?
Because most new guitars and basses come with a protective film of clear plastic covering the pickguard. This film protects the pickguard during shipping and retail display. It’s this thin film that looks worn and faded, not the pickguard itself, and it’s meant to be removed.
How do you date a G&L ASAT Classic?
G&L instruments produced since mid-2010 are shipped with a Custom Build Specifications sheet which includes the date the instrument was completed. There are also dates labeled on the neck heel and inside of the body.
Does pickguard affect sound acoustic?
Can a pickguard change the way a solidbody sounds? The answer is yes, but it turns out to be more complex than the reason for an acoustic. The more resonant or “alive” a guitar is, the more a pickguard can affect its natural tone, and thus, the amplified sound.

Beginning in 2016, we were no longer the OEM pickguard supplier to G&L, so please contact us if your guitar does not have our part number written on the back or was made after 2016. On the Tribute ones, you will need to send us your original guard to copy; we’ll return it to you with the new one.
