Are valve stem extenders safe?

Braided steel valve extenders are not recommended. They cause the most leaks, the most tire pressure and signal loss alerts, and the most overall headaches.

Do you need tape for valve extenders?

You have to wrap the valve stem with tape before you put the tire on, then put the extender on permanently. If you try to remove them all the time then the tape will wear down and they will leak again.

What size valve extender do I need?

According to this rule of thumb, low-profile rims that measure around 25mm require a 40mm valve stem. For those wheelsets measuring 35-45mm, a 60mm valve stem will normally be long enough, while anything taller than 50mm demands an 80mm valve stem.
