What is the difference between UNC and UNJC?

UNJC threads are almost identical to UNC threads except that they have a larger root radius for improved thread strength.

What does the J mean in UNJF thread?

The Special UNJ threads are designated by the nomenclature UNJS. J screw threads feature a root radius which improves the tensile stress area of the fastener and helps to reduce the stress concentration factor in the thread thus making the thread stronger.

Where are UNEF threads used for?

In most cases, a UNEF thread will be used to fasten machinery that isn’t meant to be disassembled. That’s part of why these sturdy fasteners are a popular option in the American machinery industry. When high tensile strength is needed, UNEF threaded fasteners are the way to go.

What does NS stand for on a tap?

NS means special thread. Pitch Diameter is the basic dimension of a screw, threaded hole, or a tap the diameter of an imaginary cylinder, the surface of which passes through the thread where width of thread and space between threads are identical. This cylinder, of course, would be a cone for tapered taps.

What is the difference between UNJ and UNJF threads?

UNJ, UNJC, UNJF and UNJEF threads are almost identical to UN, UNC, UNF, and UNEF threads except that the external J thread has a much larger root radius than the standard UN threads and inspection must be performed on this element. The Special UNJ threads are designated by the nomenclature UNJS.

What is the difference between NF and NC threads?

NC and UNC mean coarse thread. NF and UNF mean fine thread. NS means special thread. Pitch Diameter is the basic dimension of a screw, threaded hole, or a tap the diameter of an imaginary cylinder, the surface of which passes through the thread where width of thread and space between threads are identical.

What does NC stand for on a tap?

NC (national coarse)

Size Threads per Inch Major Outside Diameter
No 12 24 .216″
1/4″ 20 .250″
5/16″ 18 .3125″
3/8″ 16 .375″

What does UNEF mean?

UNEF. / (ˈjuːˌnɛf) / n acronym for. United Nations Emergency Force.

What does UNS stand for in taps?

General purpose UNS (Unified National Special) machine taps are designed for multi‑purpose general tapping applications across a wide range of materials.
