What does XPS mean insulation?

Extruded polystyrene insulation
Extruded polystyrene insulation (XPS) is manufactured using a process of extrusion. This continuous process results in a closed cell structure with a smooth skin on the top and bottom of the board.

What is the R-value of XPS?

XPS Data Summary: R-value: 4.7 per inch.

What is the difference between XPS and PIR insulation?

With that being said, Extruded Polystyrene (or XPS or “Styrofoam”) can only be used in applications up to 165°F, whereas Polyisocyanurate (or PIR or “Polyiso”) can be used in applications up to 300°F.

What thicknesses does XPS come in?

This bulletin provides thermal conductivity, thermal resistance, density and compressive strength for FOAMULAR® 150, 250, 400, 600 and 1000 insulation in thicknesses of 2″, 3″ and 4″.

How much weight can XPS hold?

Q: How much weight can EPS Carry? ASTM C578 standard for EPS type I is 10psi or 1,440 pounds per square ft (1 square foot is equal to 144 square inches). One square inch of Type I EPS can support 10 pounds; however, set a one square foot board on the foam and it can support 1,440 pounds.

Does XPS lose R-value?

The trapped gases in the cells of polyiso and XPS foam assist to provide an initial high R-value. During the life of these foams, air from the atmosphere diffuses in and the trapped gases diffuse out. The result is polyiso and XPS lose R-value over their lifetime.

Is kingspan an XPS?

Kingspan GreenGuard is a fibre-free rigid extruded polystyrene insulation (XPS) that has the necessary compressive strength to make it the product of choice for specialist applications such as heavy duty flooring, car park decks and inverted roofs.

Is XPS good for soundproofing?

Polystyrene can be used for the purposes of dulling noise or providing a barrier for sound to travel outside of its immediate space. However, Polystyrene is not ideal for soundproofing professional environments like a music studio, but it is effective in the simplest form of soundproofing.

Is XPS an air barrier?

At one inch, XPS is vapor-semi-permeable – meaning, it is vapor di use open, or “permeable”. At 1-1/2 inch and great thickness, however, XPS becomes vapor-retarding (i.e. a “vapor barrier”1).

Can XPS insulation be left exposed?

XPS boards are susceptible to UV ray exposure. Left uncovered these boards’ physical and insulative properties begin to weaken. First, their color fades, then the foam core suffers from powder chalking, and finally, the R-values deteriorate.

Is Celotex an XPS?

Browse our range of XPS Boards from popular brands such as Celotex, Kingspan, Quinntherm and more.

Does rigid foam insulation reduce noise?

Styrofoam insulation is the most effective Styrofoam product for reducing sound in a room or environment.

Does XPS melt?

XPS is a thermoplastic material which softens at 165°F and melts in the 200°F to 210°F range.

Is XPS insulation waterproof?

XPS. XPS is another waterproof, rigid insulation material. It is made from polystyrene pellets, which are mixed with various chemicals, then heated until the pellets liquefy.

Does XPS insulation off gas?

XPS is Rated at R5 per inch, but it will off-gas and lose some insulation performance over time – especially below-grade and when tested in real-world applications.

What is 100% soprema XPS?

100mm Soprema XPS SL is an extremely durable, high strength extruded polystyrene thermal insulation board offering high water resistance for flat and pitched roofs. It can be stored and installed in severe wet weather conditions with no deterioration during its life.

What is the compressive strength of styrozone XPS board?

Compressive Strength: 300kPa. 100mm Kingspan Styrozone N300R XPS Board is an insulation for inverted roofs, basements, car park decks, and heavy-duty commercial, industrial and cold store flooring. They have high compressive strength, and a closed cell structure which resists the absorption of ground water and the passage of water vapour.

What is XPS SL board used for?

100mm Soprema XPS SL Rigid Thermal Insulation Board is used in Floor Insulating applications and boasts a moisture absorption of around only 2% after long term use due to immersion, diffusion or freeze-thaw resistance. The benefits of the sheets are they can withstand heavy loads on top and are lightweight but durable.

Can soprema XPS SL be stored outside?

Note: Soprema XPS SL is not affected by rain, snow or frost, and the material can be stored outside. The only thing you need to do is to keep the boards out of direct sunlight.
