What is considered a small barracuda?

There are more than 26 different species of barracuda that range in size from less than 20 inches to nearly 6 1/2 ft in length. Although they can be found in the deep ocean, they prefer coastal habitats along the continental shelves and coral reefs.

If the name of the month you catch a barracuda in does not contain the letter “R”, it is not safe to eat. This means do not eat barracuda during the following months: May, June, July or August. In other words, warm weather months.
