How do you flatten old veneers?

Four parts water, two parts glycerine, one part alcohol, and two parts plastic-resin glue. Mix thoroughly and apply to both sides of the veneer with a brush. Saturate it pretty good. This solution will soften the fibers and allow them to flex.

You can’t work with it this way. In order to cut a sheet of veneer into smaller pieces and fit the pieces into a precise pattern, the veneer has to be rendered flat and pliable. Fortunately, that’s easy to do. First, you soak the veneer in a mixture of water, glycerine, alcohol and glue.
