Why does my tailbone hurt when doing squats?

When lifting weights, tailbone injury generally occurs in the form of strains to the ligaments that hold the coccyx in place; this is more common in lifts that require significant leg movement such as lunges or squats, or in lifts that require bracing of the core, such as dead lifts, snatches or clean-and-jerk lifts.

How do you fix a sore tailbone?

Lean forward while sitting down. Sit on a doughnut-shaped pillow or wedge (V-shaped) cushion. Apply heat or ice to the affected area. Take over-the-counter pain relievers, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol, others), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) or aspirin.
