Do you have to heat wrap headers before or after you install them?

If you’re going to wrap your headers, both gentlemen suggest doing so with the headers removed, or wrapping prior to header installation. Thor said, “It’s always best to wrap them on a bench if that is an option. It allows the installer to get a nice clean wrap with proper coverage around the header or exhaust.”

Is it worth heat wrapping headers?

Header Wrap keeps the heat in the pipes. This improves exhaust flow and The Scavenging Effect. It also lowers underhood temps. Wrapped headers will make a little more Torque and Horsepower than a bare metal set.

Do you need to wet heat wrap?

Soaking and spraying exhaust wrap can make installation easier and also reduce the amount of fibers. We recommend just spraying as you go along, not soaking. Wetting the wrap does not cause it to shrink, it makes it stick better to itself.

Do you use a header wrap or exhaust shield?

I don’t use either….things get hot, but I make sure to leave plenty of room for stuff like fuel and brake lines. Put the exhaust in first, then route the smaller lines somewhere else. Header wrap might be better for protecting the parts, but shields might be better for protecting headers.

What is the best heat protection product for headers?

This product is well reviewed and DEI seems to be the most popular heat protection product manufacture in the business. Most importantly, the “Titanium” wrap looks sweet! I need to wrap a set of shorty headers, so I purchased 2 rolls of exhaust wrap (25-ft each).

Should I pre-soak my heat shield wrap before installation?

Here at Heatshield Products, we don’t believe in pre-soaking exhaust wrap before installation. Soaking your heat shield wrap will wash off coatings that need to be heat cycled to cure the wrap for proper function and lifespan.

What is the best heatshield exhaust wrap?

The reality is, Heatshield Products is the only company with a truly 2,000-degrees F capable automotive exhaust wrap: our Inferno Wrap™. The Inferno Wrap™ is recommended for turbo, supercharged, and racing applications where exceptionally high exhaust gas temperatures are seen.
