Are dogs allowed in Brodick Castle?
Brodick Castle Your pets are allowed to accompany you for a bout of exploration in the castle’s pretty grounds (with the exception of the walled garden). Brodick Castle is located in the harbour village where the ferry from the mainland drops anchor.
Who lived in Brodick Castle?
As the home of the Dukes of Hamilton, the castle was occupied by Cromwellian troops after the first Duke was executed during the Civil War in 1648 and the second died in battle just three years later.

Who owns Lochranza Castle?
Constructed upon a spit, Lochranza Castle was originally a hall house built by the MacSweens of Knapdale and later taken over by the Stewarts. They held it for almost two hundred years before James II granted it to the Montgomerie family who converted it into an L-plan Tower House.
Where can I see deer on Arran?
You can spot deer in abundance across Arran – and they often congregate very near to our distillery in Lochranza. If you’re extremely lucky during your trip to Arran, you may even see the legendary White Stag, which lends his name to our whisky community!

Who lived in Lochranza Castle?
In 1614 it was occupied by the king and in the 1650s it was used by Oliver Cromwell. By 1705, Lochranza Castle was the property of the Hamilton family, after it was purchased by the Duchess of Hamilton.
Are there snakes on Arran?
Yep, Arran is home to snakes! You’ll usually find them lurking around under dead leaves, on top of hot rocks, or in heathery moorland, especially in remote areas. While they’re way less active in colder months, it’s pretty common to spot them in spring and summer.
Are there sea eagles on Arran?
Arran Wildlife Ornithologists are spoiled for choice on Arran – both land and sea birds are plentiful, sea eagles have even been spotted! Much of Arran is wild, from the forested areas to the beaches, and the mountains to the moors.
Are there rabbits on Arran?
In addition there are hares, rabbits and the occasional black adder. Visitors in the Autumn will enjoy the sights and sounds of the stags rutting.
Do people live on Arran?
There are no towns on Arran, but there are four main settlements on the island. The largest is the village of Lamlash, with a population of 1,100. Others are Brodick (population 621), Whiting Bay (population 620) and Lochranza (population 250).

Who built Lochranza Castle?
Dougall MacSween
It led to a single stair that rose through the building, with three barriers along its way. The ground floor entrance was protected by a murder hole – a trapdoor above, through which defenders could attack intruders with arrows, stones or other projectiles. The builder was probably Dougall MacSween, Lord of Knapdale.
Are there golden eagles on Arran?
