Why is my controversy so high Warband?

How do you get rid of controversy in Mount and Blade Warband?
If you want to resign your marshallship, you have to go speak to your king and tell him you don’t want it anymore. If you’re the king, tell one of your trusty lord that you want him to be the marshall. That’s it. Then controversy will go down on its own.

There is no way to replace the king with yourself, per se. However, there are two things you can do: 1) Continue to take castles and towns and always demand them to be awarded to you. Once of these times the king will refuse.
