Does size matter in subwoofer box?

When it comes to subwoofers, the answer’s yes; size matters greatly. If you have a couple of 8″ drivers in a box you’re calling a subwoofer, you’re going to be disappointed if you follow the setup steps we’ll be discussing – because you won’t get the results we’re getting.

How do you match a subwoofer to a room size?

First, consider your listening room. Bigger rooms need bigger subwoofers to energize all that air space. Twice the room volume requires twice the energy from your subwoofer to maintain the same loudness.

Can a sub be too big for a room?

With subs, there is no such thing as ‘too much’. Low frequencies are the foundation of sound and can add a new dimension of size to the sound field when done right.

How do you size a subwoofer?

Let’s assume you’re equipping a home theater or hi-fi system in an average-size room – anywhere from 150 to 230 square feet. It makes sense to go for a subwoofer with a 12” driver. Not only is this the most common driver size available, but it’s also the most forgiving – both in terms of price and in terms of results.

Is a 15 inch subwoofer too big?

The answer to the question of whether 15 inch subwoofers have better base than 12 inch subs is not an easy one to answer. The fact is, “better” is a personal opinion. 15 inch subwoofers are larger and displace more air than 12 inch subwoofers do, so the 12 in will have a crisper, sharper sound than the larger ones.

Is a 150 watt subwoofer good?

That said, if the sub is decent, 150 watts can be plenty in many instances especially if the sub is fairly efficient. Some of the best 10″ subs I’ve used and still own are only rated at 175 watts though they’re known to take a tad more (Peerless 830876).

What is a subwoofer box?

A subwoofer box, often known as a sub box, can help contain all of the vibrations from the drivers, preventing mechanical damage. A properly sized subwoofer enclosure can also provide excellent bass extension while reducing sound interference.

What are the different types of subwoofer sizes?

The Subwoofer Size Chart consists of 4 different types of subwoofers. I have divided subwoofers into 8 inches, 10 inches, 12 inches, and 15 inches category. Along with this, I have added all the important features and the best-suited cars for every subwoofer size.

How thick should a subwoofer box be?

When building a subwoofer box, keep in mind that it needs to be as solid as possible to avoid flexing. While thinner material should not provide an issue for tiny sealed boxes, building a vented or bandpass box may present greater challenges. The most commonly recommended thickness of the material is 34″, or 0.75′′.

How long does it take to make a subwoofer box plan?

Our online calculator will make a subwoofer box plan, 3D model and other calculations in about 0.025 seconds – we think it’s convincing.
