What does a Drayton mid position actuator do?

Drayton mid-position valves allow the flow of water from the valve inlet to be directed to either of two outlets, or through both at the same time (mid-position).

What is a mid position valve actuator?

A replacement Mid-position motorised zone valve actuator. It is to be used for the flow control of central heating or hot water in ‘Y plan’ central heating systems. The valve operates in conjunction with inputs from a room thermostat or a cylinder thermostat.

How does a mid position valve work?

The valve is kept in this position until the electrical supply is interrupted. When the electrical supply is interrupted the internal spring drives the valve back and closes port A. If power is activated on both channels, the valve will sit in mid position and allow water to flow through ports A and B.

What does an actuator do in central heating?

An actuator is the part of the heating system that is responsible for moving or controlling it. It requires a control signal and source of energy (usually an electric current). The actuator responds to the control signal by converting the energy into mechanical motion.

What is the difference between a diverter valve and a mid position valve?

A diverter valve can only sit in one of two positions, either Hot Water only or Central heading only. It has 3 wires. A mid position valve can sit in 3 different positions… Hot Water only, Central heating only, or as the name says, in the middle leaving both the HW & CH heating up!

Can you unstick a diverter valve?

However, in most cases, the valve may have become stuck and simply needs to be cleaned and re-fitted. The engineer might choose to replace the whole diverter unit to prevent the new valve from sticking. You could also ask the engineer to look at other parts of your boiler while the casing is off.

Can I leave motorised valve on manual?

Leaving the valve in the manual position will not harm the boiler, but you will always have heating as the boiler maintains its temperature for the hot water.

What’s the difference between a 3 port valve and a mid position valve?

Both valves are 3 port. But one is simply a diverter. The mid position valve however flows water to both systems simultaneously when CH is turned on. The hot water will usually be satisfied first due to lower flow resistance which then allows the valve to divert fully to the central heating.

How do you test a diverter valve actuator?

After you remove the lid of the boiler, you have to locate the diverter valve mechanism. Run tap water on hot and observe the diverter valve. If you run hot water, the valve is supposed to close in order to divert it to the tap, meaning it should move. If you see no movement, then it’s stuck.

What are the features of a Drayton mid-position valve?

The Drayton mid-position valves are available in 22mm and 28mm. All models feature “snap-on” actuators and have industry-standard wiring and dimensions. 5 wire SPST switch. 230V a.c. 5 watts. Replaceable actuators & motors. 100% tight shut off.

What is the installer section of the Drayton website for?

This section of our website is dedicated to you the installer. Here you can find useful information, training modules and wiring diagrams to help with your day-to-day job. The Drayton mid-position valves are available in 22mm and 28mm. All models feature “snap-on” actuators and have industry-standard wiring and dimensions.

Can I remove the clip-on actuator and turn the valve to side?

I have removed the clip-on actuator and can turn the valve to either side OK by hand. I cannot move the black button on the actuator and when I removed it a small spring fell out, also there’s something loose inside it as it rattles when shaken.

What is the Drayton advice centre?

Welcome to the Drayton Advice Centre. Here you will find guidance on how to make your home more comfortable and energy efficient using heating controls. Around 70% of UK homes do not have the minimum level of controls meaning that thousands of people are missing out on the cost savings they can bring.
