What is MIL HDBK 217F?

MIL-HDBK-217F, MILITARY HANDBOOK: RELIABILITY PREDICTION OF ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT (02-DEC-1991)., The purpose of this handbook is to establish and maintain consistent and uniform methods for estimating the inherent reliability (i.e., the reliability of a mature design) of military electronic equipment and systems.

What does ground benign mean?

Ground Benign (GB) Nonmobile, temperature and humidity controlled environments readily accessible to maintenance; includes laboratory instruments and test equipment, medical electronic equipment, business and scientific computer complexes, and missiles and support equipment in ground silos. 50. 30.

How do you predict reliability?

To perform a reliability prediction, you begin by listing all the components in your system design. You then compute the estimated failure rates of your components using the equations from the standard you choose to use. The summation of all the components’ failure rates is the predicted failure rate of your system.

What’s an example of benign?

You use benign to describe someone who is kind, gentle, and harmless. They are normally a more benign audience. I just smiled benignly and stood back. A benign substance or process does not have any harmful effects.

What is benign in medical terms?

(beh-NINE) Not cancer. Benign tumors may grow larger but do not spread to other parts of the body. Also called nonmalignant.

What is good MTBF?

This means that there is no such thing as a “good” MTBF value. Instead, what we need to focus on is calculating MTBF for our specific equipment or systems, to begin to develop an estimate of reliability.

What is a reliability model?

Reliability modeling is the process of predicting or understanding the reliability of a component or system prior to its implementation.

How do you predict a failure rate?

Failure Rate Predictions and Reliability Predictions are generally made from Accelerated Life Testing (ALT) where the Mean Time to Failure (MTTF/MTBF) level in hours is predicted from Accelerated Test Data, then converted into Failure Rate in simple steps.

Does benign mean cancerous?

Not cancer. Benign tumors may grow larger but do not spread to other parts of the body. Also called nonmalignant.

What is the difference between hazard rate and failure rate?

Hazard measures the conditional probability of a failure given the system is currently working. The Hazard/Instantaneous Failure Rate measures the dynamic (instantaneous) speed of failures.

What is called failure rate?

Failure rate can be defined as the anticipated number of times that an item fails in a specified period of time. It is a calculated value that provides a measure of reliability for a product.
