Vintage Deluxe Profile Shhhh! The profile is considerably lower than other vintage necks, with a V apex that is softened to be barely noticeable. But the real secret to this new neck is found in what Martin refers to as its “skewed” shape.

The original Martin guitars were intended for professional musicians who played the Classical repertoire, but they had a slightly narrower neck of 1-7/8″ at the nut, and 2-5/16″ at the 12th fret.

What guitar has the widest neck?

The best example of this would be classical guitars with nylon strings. Classical guitars – by far – tend to have the widest necks, with many measuring a two-inch nut width. If you don’t want a classical or nylon string guitar, this is something you need to watch out for and simply avoid them.

Who makes the widest neck guitar?

Wide guitar necks are defined as those whose diameter at the nut is around 1 and 7/8” / 47.6 mm. The main manufacturer of wide-neck guitars is Seagull; they really own the market in this category. There are a few outliers, but Seagull is where you’ll find the most options for wide-neck guitars.

Where can I find the best Martin Marquis neck profiles?

Another great resource is our Martin Guitar Neck Profiles blog. Just another reason why Maury’s Music is one of Martin’s largest and most trusted Authorized Martin Marquis Guitar Dealers!

What is the most comfortable Martin profile you have ever seen?

To date, the most comfortable ‘modern’ (CNC) Martin profile I’ve found is their custom-only 30’s style modified V (on an ‘03 OM-18 Custom w a 1 3/4” nut). Martin CS described this as a cross between modified low oval and modified V, but it feels and measures more like a cross of mod V and full thickness. I like a 1 11/16” nut width.

What nut width do you prefer for a Martin neck profile?

I like a 1 11/16” nut width. Certain Martin authentic models feature 1 11/16” nuts, so I want to find where these neck profiles fall in the continuum. Seems like they may be outside my comfort range in terms of shoulder.

Can you measure the neck on a Martin d-18a 1939?

I have not measured the neck on the D-18A 1939 but maybe someone here has. If you do get those measurements from the Custom Shop remember that they do not include the fretboard thickness. Fretboards on Authentics are thinner than on modern Martins, so you have to take that into account.
