Does a power supply really need a fan?

Power Supply Cooling Methods. Power supplies generate heat which could damage the components in the circuit. Because of this, power supplies need to have a cooling system to dissipate excess heat.

Does a PC need a fan under the power supply?

A power supply comes with a fan built into the unit, so installing a fan inside a power supply is not needed. If the fan in the power supply unit stops working, you can try cleaning it out using compressed air to see if that resolves the issue.

Why do PSUs have fans?

Yes, there are some fanless PSUs available too but they are quite expensive and are also not that much popular. Almost all the modern-day standard ATX power supplies come with a 120mm fan that is mounted on the top/bottom side.
