If you have an SIA online account, please log in to your account and use the ‘contact the SIA’ form in our licensing site. This will confirm your identity, so we will not need to ask our data protection questions before we can respond to your enquiry.
Can I still renew my SIA licence after it expires?
You cannot renew a licence unless you have a current licence in that sector. If your licence has already expired, you must apply for a new licence.

What is SIA Home Office?
We are the regulator of the UK’s private security industry. SIA is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Home Office.
How long is a SIA licence valid for?
three years
SIA licences are valid for a period of three years, after which time you’ll need to apply to renew your license. It’s best to apply before your current licence expires however, to ensure you don’t experience any lapse in your cover.
Can you work with an expired SIA badge?
Your SIA Licence will last for three years, unless you hold a Front Line Vehicle Immobiliser Licence, which will need to be renewed ever year. When your existing licence expires or is nearing expiration, you will have to reapply in order to work legally.

We aim to review appeals as quickly as we can, but it often takes us about 4 weeks to respond to an appeal. If we do stand by our decision, it will come into effect immediately.
Can I work in security without a SIA licence?
You need an SIA licence to work in contracted security, but not if you work as in-house security. The exception to this is door supervision. Door supervisors and vehicle immobilisers need an SIA licence whether they are in-house or contract.

Yes, but only in some cases. You can work as soon as you receive an acknowledgement letter from the SIA that your license is being processed. However, most security companies will not accept SIA reply letters acknowledging your SIA license application, and will instead require an SIA licence.
