How do I use Minidlna?
For MiniDLNA follow these steps:
- Install MiniDLNA sudo apt-get install minidlna.
- Edit configuration file gksu gedit /etc/minidlna.conf.
- Add the following text to the file.
- Then restart the service to apply changes sudo service minidlna restart.
- Make sure the file list is rebuild sudo service minidlna force-reload.
Does Minidlna transcode?
To decrease system load, MiniDLNA does not transcode on the fly unsupported media files into supported by your player formats.

How do I set up DLNA on my Roku?
Look for Roku Media Player.
- Press the Home button on your Roku Remote.
- Select Streaming Channels on the left.
- Select Search Channels.
- Search for Roku Media Player, and select Roku Media Player on the right.
- Select Add channel.
- Once added, select OK.
Is there a better media player for Roku?
If you use Emby on your Roku device the application will work without Premiere. Premiere is only needed on the Roku to access the Live TV features. The Emby Roku app has a much better interface and UI than Roku Media Player and also has better media support.
Should I disable DLNA?
The DLNA standard uses UPnP, allowing for the discovery of other devices and communicate with those devices. So if you are not streaming media from a local PC(or other device) on your network then you will be OK to disable it. I would be careful disabling UPnP though as other technologies that you use might rely on it.
