How much oil does a Ford 9-inch diff take?

One entire bottle (3.8 fl. oz.) is required in addition to the 2.5 quarts of gear oil. Ford Racing brand additive part # CM-19546-A1 is recommended. Additive is required even if gear oil manufacturer states oil is compatible with limited slip differentials.

How much oil does a Ford 9-inch rear end take?

Oil Capacities 2.84 liters / 3 qts. Currie F9 3 or 3.25 in.

Should I use synthetic gear oil?

Gear Wear. The issue of gear wear is also a consideration. A study cited in Machinery Lubrication magazine1 implied synthetic lubricants make gears more efficient than mineral oils. A polyglycol showed the highest efficiency (18 percent more than the high-performing mineral oil).

What is gl6 gear oil?

The designation API GL-6 denotes lubricants intended for gears designed with a very high pinion offset. Such designs typically require protection from gear scoring in excess of that provided by API GL-5 gear oils.

What kind of oil goes in a differential?

There are two types of differential fluid. One is mineral oil, which is a natural, crude oil-based fluid. The other is synthetic differential fluid, which is created in a lab. As with all synthetic oils, synthetic differential fluid oils can be fine-tuned for optimal performance.

Can I use GL4 instead of GL3?

The difference between GL-3 and GL-4 is that GL-4 has a higher lubrication requirement spec than GL-3. And by that I mean there is equipment out there specially designed to test gear oils and simply put a GL-4 oil will sustain more load carrying capacity than GL-3. GL-4 will have more EP additives than GL-3.

Can I use GL4 instead of gl1?

GL4 is the “official” replacement for GL-1 (did not have as much of the high-pressure additives at GL-5, which caused the yellow-metal incompatibility). GL-5 with MT-1 rating is compatible with GL-4. I just purchased 5 gallon pails of “GL-4/GL-5 MT-1” 80/90wt from Costco.

Which is thicker 75w90 or 80w90?

SAE 75W-90 maintains a more consistent thickness, or viscosity, across a wide temperature range. It’s thicker when exposed to high heat and thinner under colder, wintry conditions than 80W-90.
