How hard is it to bike Mt Diablo?
Mt. Diablo from Walnut Creek (north) is the fifth most difficult bike climb in the Bay area. The northern and southern approaches to the summit merge for the final 4.5 miles to the summit. At the summit there is an observation platform giving us the best 360 degree views in the East Bay.

Is Mt Diablo open to the public?
Park Hours Gates open 8:00am and close at sunset. Visitors should plan to be in their vehicles by sunset and headed out to avoid being locked in.
Are there bears in Mt Diablo?
Black bears are also present in the forested areas of the Inner Coast range, which extends north from the Transverse Range to the Diablo Range east of San Jose. There have been recent reports of an individual bear spotted near Skyline Boulevard on the Peninsula.
Are there mountain lions on Mount Diablo?
The local variety is one of the largest subspecies, but it has become extinct in may of the areas where it once thrived. It would not be entirely accurate to say that there is a mountain lion population on Mount Diablo. Lions have been known to range over 20 miles in one night.
