How do you practice sight words in first grade?

Try this quick 2 minute technique to help your child remember any sight word they have!

  1. Write a sight word on a note card or flash card in clear lowercase letter handwriting.
  2. Have your child trace each letter on the flashcard using the back of a pen or pencil, say the name of each letter as they trace it.

Tape words on the wall or ceiling. Use the flashlight to shine on the word, then have your child read it. Go Fish: With a duplicate set of word cards play “Go Fish.” You can easily make your own cards out of index cards. Stepping Stones: Place the word cards on the floor, making a fun stream going across the room.
