What is an ABPM device?
With ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM), practices can send patients home with a portable monitor connected to a blood pressure (BP) cuff that automatically inflates at regular intervals and records many BP reading over a 24-hour period.
How is Abpm done?
You’ll wear a device that is about the same size as a portable radio. The device is attached to a belt or strap worn on your body. It collects information throughout the 24-hour period that will later be transferred to a computer. You’ll wear a BP cuff that is attached to the device around your upper arm.

Preparing for your appointment An appointment will be booked for you to have the 24 hour blood pressure monitor fitted and an appointment booked for it to be removed the next day. It is advised that you do not drive whilst wearing the monitor so please arrange transport if needed to the appointments.

Can I exercise while wearing a Holter, Event or Blood Pressure Monitor? Yes, light exercise is acceptable. It is important to note that you will not be able to shower after the exercise and heavy perspiration may result in the electrodes becoming unstuck and the quality of the data can be affected.
