The length of time that a client is in PTA can indicate the severity of the head injury. A person is deemed out of PTA when they score is 12/12 on three consecutive days (not including the first day as that is scored out of 7).

What does PTA indicate?

Post-traumatic amnesia (PTA) is the time after a period of unconsciousness when the injured person is conscious and awake, but is behaving or talking in a bizarre or uncharacteristic manner.

How do you assess post traumatic amnesia?

The Westmead Post-traumatic Amnesia Scale (WPTAS) and its abbreviated form (the A-WPTAS) are also valid measures for determining the length of PTA. The WPTAS was designed to assess the ability of individuals who have sustained a TBI to lay down new memories over a 24-h period.

How do you score the goat?

At the PT level, the percentage of candidates who passed the PEAT retired form (with a score of 600 or higher) and later went on to pass the NPTE was 99.3%, meaning only 0.7% of those who passed the retired form later failed the NPTE.

What is a passing Npte score?

The passing standard is a scaled score of 600; therefore, any score of 600 or higher is a passing score, and any score below 600 is a failing score. The number of questions that have to be answered correctly to achieve a score of 600 can change from form to form, but is generally within a one to two question range.

What is normal PTA?

The most common PTA definition found in epidemiological, or population-based, studies is the four-frequency average of 500, 1000, 2000, and 4000 Hz. As the PTA increases, the hearing ability decreases. Normal hearing for speech is observed in adults with PTAs of 25 dB HL or less.

Post Traumatic Amnesia (PTA) PTA is a stage of recovery after a traumatic brain injury when a person has emerged from loss of consciousness or a coma. During this time a person may be slightly or fully conscious but confused and disoriented.
