How do you verify if a company is a small business?

Businesses can be searched for using any of the following search criteria:

  1. location (state, congressional district, metropolitan statistical area)
  2. ownership data (U.S. Citizen owned, minority owned, veteran owned, etc.)
  3. federal certifications (SBA 8(a) certification)
  4. industry sector codes (NAICS, “Buy Green” NAICS)

How to Verify Application Submission

  1. Log-in to beta.certify.sba.gov.
  2. Navigate to the application “dashboard”
  3. Under “program participation status” you should see your application as either “draft” or “submitted.” If submitted, it has entered pre-processing/processing.

SBA (8a) is an ownership/diversity certification sponsored by the Small Business Association (SBA) of the United States government. The 8(a) program is a nine-year business development program that provides business training, counseling, marketing and technical assistance to small businesses that have been certified.
