What is con scan?
Conical scan. A great improvement on the basic spin-scan concept is the conical scanner or con-scan. In this arrangement, a fixed reticle is placed in front of the detector and both are positioned at the focus point of a small Cassegrain reflector telescope.
What is a spin scan?
(a.k.a. “Spin Scan”) A CompuTrainer Pedal Stroke (Spin Scan) Analysis provides an analysis of pedal stroke efficiency by identifying leg imbalances, “dead spots,” and power output throughout your pedal stroke.
How does IR missile seeker works?
An IR seeker works by using a sensor to search for IR radiation emitted and reflected by potential targets. Early seekers were ‘hot-spot trackers’ (typically focusing on jet exhausts). However, the present generation of imaging IR seekers uses an array to build an IR image of the target.
How does an RF seeker work?
The tracker makes use of an active radio frequency (rf) seeker (a radar mounted in the front of the missile) as main source of information about the target. Up until the point in time when the seeker starts delivering target data the missile is able to receive and process data sent to it over a data-link.
Do flares really work?
Flares are one effective and simple way to deflect heat-seeking missiles, but military fleets rely far more on infrared jamming systems. Safer over populated areas than burning flares and perhaps a bit more effective, jamming devices deflect manpads by exploiting the way that the missiles track their targets.
How fast are heat-seeking missiles?
It is expected to fly at over 2100 m/s (3600 mph). These missiles are known as kinetic energy missiles. They are designed to take out tanks and other armored vehicles.
What is missile seeker?
Missile seekers are the systems used in missiles to guide them on the right trajectory to accurately hit the desired targets. Recent technological developments in defense systems, including guided missiles, have led to the increased demand for more efficient missile seekers.
How fast are heat seeking missiles?
Are IR missiles fire and forget?
A missile that has an IR (infrared) or other self-guidance seeker and does not require aircraft to provide continued data about the target. Such a missile gets its initial data from aircraft and thereafter follows the target with help of its own seeker.
How are missiles programmed?
Preset guidance is the simplest type of missile guidance. From the distance and direction of the target, the trajectory of the flight path is determined. Before firing, this information is programmed into the missile’s guidance system, which, during flight, maneuvers the missile to follow that path.
What’s better flare or chaff?
Chaff generally works better for ground targets, and against helicopters, but flares can work better against planes where ideally you won’t be letting them get more than a single missile off on you. That prevents the other pilot from having a chance to get a better run on you while you’re running evasive maneuvers.
How far can you see a flare gun?
3 miles
Flares like this are typically visible up to about 5km (3 miles) away for anything from 30 seconds to several minutes.
Why do missiles spin?
In flight, the fins of the rocket produce aerodynamic forces. These forces are applied at the center of pressure of the rocket which is some distance from the rocket cg and produce torques (or moments) about the principal axes. The torques cause the rocket to rotate.
