What are Germanium pedals?

The Germanium Fuzz is a fuzz pedal. The knobs change the sounds. IMPORTANT: after plugging it into power (9vdc only), it will take 2-3 minutes on average to sound correct. Good time to tune your guitar and grab a beverage.

How do you set the Fuzz Face Bias?

When biased properly, the Fuzz Face will seem to clean up and get brighter when you decrease the volume on the guitar. To make the pedal louder put the volume on the pedal all the way up (the 500K pot), and increase the 470 Ohm resistor until it is about right.

Where does germanium fuzz go in pedal chain?

So by placing a buffer between the two, you’re essentially interrupting the way they interact and you’ll be compromising your fuzz sound. So make sure that you place your fuzz pedal as early in the chain as you can.

Is germanium fuzz better?

By all accounts, germanium fuzz pedals are much softer and smoother around the edges than their silicon counterparts. You could compare their tone to that of a vintage tube amp. These pedals let you retain a lot of expression during use, while many devout germanium fans simply say that they sound more organic.

Did Jimi Hendrix use a germanium fuzz face?

These are often considered to be “holy grail” like pedals for guitarists. I like to think that this all goes back to the days of Jimi Hendrix’s first album “Are You Experienced?” where he used the Fuzz Face on many classic songs including “Purple Haze”, “Manic Depression”, “Foxy Lady”, and “Third Stone from the Sun”.

How does a fuzz circuit work?

The fuzz face works by inputting signal through a DC blocking resistor driving a transistor one, transistor two is directly coupled with transistor one. This is called a “voltage biasing circuit”.

How do you get calluses on your fingers for guitar?

Press down on a thin edge of a credit card or similar object when you aren’t playing to get your fingers used to the sensation and pressure. Use a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol on your fingertips to dry them out and promote faster callus formation.
