What is Devkarya?

Devkarya is an auspicious occasion of the wedding, it is the ritual in which the families of the bride and groom extend wedding invitation to the God.

Why do brides wear Chura?

Significance of Wearing Bridal Chura The bride’s chura is said to bring good luck to the newlyweds. It is a symbol of fertility, fortune and prosperity. It is believed that it strengthens the bond between the newly-wed couple.

What is nandhi in marriage?

Naandi is a ritual that is performed by both the bride and the groom in their houses. This ceremony is held so that the wedding takes place uninterruptedly. The bride and the groom seeks the blessings of god for a hassle free wedding ceremony.

How is Kelvan done?

Kelvan ceremony is one of the important marriage tradition followed in Marathi wedding. In this ceremony the parents of the soon to be bride and the groom invite each other’s family for a meal and gift are given as a token of love.

Can I change my chooda?

Traditionally, you can replace your choora from 1 to 3 times. But there is no bar in numbers, you can also wear a new Punjabi chuda on your anniversary or any other special occasion.

What should I wear to a Marathi wedding?

Maharashtrian weddings are known for their pomp, glitter and glamour and in order to match the aura of the weddings, women must dress traditionally. A woman can wear anything from a Saree to a half saree, a lehenga choli, a traditional anarkali or an anarkali gown.

What happens after Roka?

Once the Roka ceremony is over, the boy’s family is then fed with sumptuous food arranged by the girl’s family. After the food, the boy’s family takes a leave. All the decisions related to the wedding, like engagement date, wedding date, etc happen gradually.

What is marriage Vratham?

Vratham: Vratham is the fast that happens generally a day before the wedding. In this rituals, both the bride and groom’s families fast for prosperity of their children and their new married life. On this day, a clay pot filled with nine varieties of grains is kept aside.
