Is a Dana 35 a rear axle in Jeep?

The Dana 35 (as well as the AMC-15) are found in a wide variety of vehicles; the most common Dana 35 applications are as a rear axle in the Jeep Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Comanche. It also is a common front axle in the Ford Explorer.

Is Dana 35 better than Dana 44?

It may not sound like a big difference, but it’s actually a pretty big. Although the Dana 44 has a larger differential, and stronger axle shafts, it shares the same weak axle tubes with the Dana 35. You could always truss the axle to make it stronger, but at the end of the day, it’ll still have really weeks tubes.

I wouldn’t run 37’s on a Dana 30 even with 30 spline alloy shafts and CTM u-joints. I won’t run 37’s on my front Dana 44 with 30 spline Superior Axle Evolution shafts and CTM u-joints. Those two axles share the same weaknesses… the same exact axle tubes, knuckles, bearings, ball joints, etc.

If you want a big brute of a rear end under your car, look no further than a Dana 60. Even in the heyday of muscle cars, Dana 60 rear differentials were renowned for their strength, along with their difficulty to locate. Today, they’re actually incredibly easy to find.
