This website is no longer active. LightScribe software and disc utilities may be found on a number of public websites. As of April 2018, the website returns a 404 error.
Is it OK to use Sharpie on CD?
Yes, you can use an off-the-shelf permanent marker, but be careful where you write. The easiest way to label a CD-R is to whip out that permanent marker and write directly on the disc. It’s also a great way to assure that the disc won’t be readable later on.
Does writing on a CD damage it?
Writing with a ballpoint or pencil can create enough pressure to damage the layer the laser has to scan, making it unreadable. Writing with a crayon can let wax transfer to the drive’s head or mechanism, leaving your disc just fine but your drive useless.
Can I use LightScribe on any DVD?
You can play CD/DVD’s you can record audio, data, video etc (burning software permitting) but you can not use the drive to burn LightScribe labels.. that is where the System software comes in…. You need this installed before you can do any labeling. Fortunately you can download it free right here. .
