Is SHIV good XCOM?
S.H.I.V.s are very powerful against Chryssalids because of their immunity to poison and zombification. If you have the S.H.I.V. Suppression upgrade from the Foundry, they can also be helpful in stopping ranged units from supporting the Chryssalids.

So she needs around 16 kills or 64 KillAssists to level up to Major. Some other interesting things I discovered while code-diving: Except for rookies, units only gain levels after actually getting a kill, so you can’t have a Colonel with 0 kills.

I did hack a sectopod on a final mission (several +10 permanent hack bonuses over the campaign makes it easy), and fired wraith cannon at the aliens quite well. And it did work correctly at all stages.
How do you counter Sectopod?
Assault
- Armed with the Alloy Cannon and enough critical boosting abilities, an Assault can kill a Sectopod with two critical hits.
- It is possible to destroy an undamaged Sectopod in a single turn if the soldier in question also has the Rapid Fire ability, providing that both shots successfully hit.
Are exalt weapons better?
EXALT weapons are functionally equivalent to the weapons you have available. After a few months EXALT will upgrade to laser-level weaponry, also identical to the laser weapons you can produce, but without having to use resources to manufacture them.
