What is a university hall?
Uni halls are divided up like large flats, with private bedrooms and shared kitchens on each floor. Sometimes – typically with older halls – you’ll also be sharing a bathroom. Some people aren’t too keen on that idea, particularly if you’re in a mixed-sex group or the number of showers or toilets is limited.
Why are dorms called halls?
Dormitory, or dorm, is the popular term used by students to refer to a residence hall. The term comes from the word dormant, meaning to sleep. Because these are places where students live, study, learn, and sleep, most student-affairs educators use the more inclusive term residence hall.

Do you have to live on campus sophomore year at American University?
No. There is no residential requirement to live on-campus as a first-year student. However, almost all first-year students chose to live with us their first year to ensure their transition to AU is successful and they can connect with the larger AU community.
What is a show flat university?
Show Flats A Show Flat is a group of single rooms with a shared kitchen area that we allow prospective students to visit on our open days. If you volunteer to live in a Show Flat you will receive compensation for allowing people to view your room and communal space.
Is Southampton accommodation first come first serve?
We do not allocate on a first come, first served basis. After your offer is accepted, you will need to complete your online accommodation induction.
Do people shower together in college?
